Hypno-Psychotherapist

FAQS

Do I need Hypno-Psychotherapy?

Hypno-psychotherapy is not only for those times when we're experiencing challenges in life or to provide resolution to a particular issue. I often tell my clients to think of Hypno-psychotherapy as a way of promoting mental and emotional 'well-being', in a similar way that we may take up physical activity and make dietary changes to improve our physical 'well-being'.

While you may have been able to cope with the challenges you’ve encountered, it’s always a good idea to seek extra support when you need it. In fact, when you realise you need a helping hand, you’re taking responsibility admirably by facing the challenges you encounter in life. Hypno-psychotherapy may help give you long - term benefits and the tools you need to overcome whatever difficulties you encounter, and embrace your life to the fullest.

How can Hypno-Psychotherapy help me?

There are many benefits in participating in therapy. Therapists can provide support and may help you find relief for issues such as phobias and fears, depression, anxiety, stress, and confidence issues, along with the many challenges faced in daily life. By applying therapy techniques, therapists can provide different perspectives on complicated problems or even guide you to a solution.

I'm interested, what do I do now?

Use the contact form to make your initial enquiry. I will contact you to discuss a briefly what you're hoping to achieve from hypno-psychotherapy, and if suitable a consultation can be made for a conventient time to meet and discuss in more detail.

Often prior to the first session you will be supplied with access to a online questionnaire which you will be required to fill-in for a number of days running up to the first session. The questionnaire provides a score depending upon how the condition is effecting your life, and is used measure the effectiveness of the hypno-psychotherapy over the coming sessions.

During the first session a full explanation of what to expect and what can be realistically acheived will be discussed.

What is Hypno-Psychotherapy?

Hypno-psychotherapy is simply a form of Integrative Psychotherapy (using different psychotherapy techniques) where hypnosis is used as a tool to further benefit the outcomes of the client. Hypno-psychotherapy is regarded as solution-focused and typically differs in the number of sessions required (fewer) to achieve possible outcomes.

Will our conversations remain confidential?

It is common for clients to be worried about disclosing information, wondering if it is safe to do so. Confidentiality is a key component of therapy and so you can be rest assured that you can talk about:

  • Abuse: domestic, sexual, physical or emotional, past or present

  • Self harm or suicidal thoughts/attempts

  • Guilty secrets

  • Problems with eating (eg binging or purging)

  • Criminal convictions (see below for current criminal activity)

  • Disturbing thoughts or wishes

  • Sexual issues

  • Anything not listed below!

Requirements for disclosure

This being said there, are circumstances that UK law may forbid our normal confidentiality, examples of those are:

  • If I become aware, or have good reason to suspect, that you have knowledge of:

    • A past or future incident/situation that may be dangerous or harmful to a child, you or another adult, and that is not known to the relevant authorities.

    • Future or past criminal activity that has not been resolved in law. This means any criminal activity, of which the relevant authorities are either unaware or a case they know about which they consider not to be closed (provided you do not present information in therapy which would reasonably re-open the case). This does not include parking or traffic offences unless there is intent, by you or anyone else, to cause danger to yourself or others, or that it is deemed to be a “serious offence”. For our purposes a serious offence is something for which you could be imprisoned and for which the sentence (not necessarily imprisonment) hasn’t yet been served.

In these circumstances I will work with you to see if we can work together to make appropriate disclosures.

  • It is also compulsory to report terrorism, potential radicalisation, money laundering and female genital mutilation to the appropriate authorities.
